Hawkstone Design takes its name from "The Hawk Stone" a Bronze Age megalith which can be found close to our office in Chipping Norton.
David Bunney founded the company in 2010 to support optical manufacturers with an on-line ordering solution. We currently work with over 50 optical outlets across the UK and overseas, supplying on-line ordering, lab management and other software solutions.
As a company we recognise that each installation is individual in its requirements and we relish the opportunity to build bespoke solutions for each company. All solutions are built upon the foundation of our standard software.
We are pleased to announce that, as of 1st January 2025, Hawkstone Design Limited is now an employee-owned company via an Employee Ownership Trust (EOT). This change in company structure reflects our commitment to long-term sustainability and success by making our employees the owners through a trust.
Lab Management System
Annapurna is the commercial software that allows users to process orders through the lab from start to finish. Once all of the lenses, frame, treatment and pricing options have been set on the system, it is ready to go. (Supplier product information can be downloaded from the on-line community).
Orders can be imported and processed automatically or entered manually into the system. This information can then be processed automatically to the suppliers and can be tracked into various departments/processes along the way. Once the order reaches the end of the process it can then be checked and despatched to the customer. At various stages throughout the process information can be printed automatically. This can be for verification of the order by the lab or a simple delivery note to the customer. If the order is for surfacing this can then be linked to the Kalahari software ready for production.
Lens Design Software
This software calculates the curves that the generators needs to cut into the lens. This can be linked to the Annapurna system so that once an order is entered onto the system a copy of the calculation details are printed. However, this software has the ability to run independently. All that is required is the job number and then a printout can be processed. It also has the option to process a batch of orders at a time to speed up the processes. This software will also allow you to change information if you are out of stock of a particular base it will recalculate the details.

Wholesale Ordering
Orinoco is locally installed software for the ordering of semi finished and finished stock lenses. The software can facilitate the ordering of lenses by line, bar code or grid entry. Users can build up a stock order for processing on a required day/date. Fully linked with Annapurna, Orinoco allows for accurate replenishment of lenses based on the inventory requirements set up within Annapurna.
Online prescription web ordering
This is a web-based ordering program that can be linked to your current web page. This allows customers to upload orders on a daily/hourly basis to any lab within the Hawkstone community. Each system comes with the similar features and bespoke layouts, this allows the customers to become familiar with the ordering package. If you do not have a web site you can simply direct the customer to your own ordering site that is provided by Hawkstone Design. If you do not require all the features within the web site they can be turned on and off as required.
Webservice
Solenzara offers a webservice that seamlessly integrates with practice management systems and other laboratory software. It enables order validation and direct upload to the Solenzara ordering platform, streamlining the workflow and enhancing operational efficiency.
Online frame ordering platform
Acapulco is a platform where businesses can easily order frames with just a few clicks, making the whole process smooth and efficient. The site is designed to showcase various frame options through images, making it visually appealing and user-friendly. With its focus on B2B solutions, Acapulco streamlines the frame ordering process for businesses, ensuring a seamless and hassle-free experience.

Lens Tracing and Machine Connections
VCA Tracer - This software allows the customer to upload traces from a VCA/OMA compliant device to the computer. The system incorporates a size checking facility to ensure that the tracer size remains consistent and helps maintain the accuracy. This is to be used along side the tracer manufacturers own calibration procedures. When the shape is transferred to the software it can be viewed and manipulated to add or remove a specified amounts to the width, depth or circumference of the shape. This is especially useful if the customer wants to increase the depth of a supra frame to accommodate a progressive lens. Once the shape is given a reference then it can be uploaded to the web ordering site. This can then be linked with the customers order when they are ready to do so.
VCA Device - This software allows the lab to communicate with VCA/OMA compliant devices. Some legacy devices are also supported using this software. Multiple devices can run via a single instance of VCA Device communication can be personalised to correspond with each machine instance.
